Hailed as one of Miami Beach’s first luxury boutique hotels, the historic Tides South Beach unveiled a fresh face and refined look in Summer 2008 when Kelly Wearstler completed her re-design. The Tides’ new look was inspired by its Art Deco roots and streamlined architecture, but infused with a fresh perspective. The designer paid homage to city’s beachfront spirit, drawing inspiration from the colors, textures and materials that are inherent to Miami Beach.

The hotel’s 1936 structure features a lush interior in a restful, monochromatic palette of muted, sandy hues and nature-inspired motifs, such as giltwood, coral, petrified wood and sea life, to unify the indoor areas with the outdoor setting. Never losing sight of the outlying beach surroundings, each of the 45 guest rooms offers a breathtaking view of the Atlantic with refreshing travertine flooring underfoot.

Reminiscent of a 1940s Italian luxury liner, the lobby’s Coral Bar features a 22-carat, gold-leaf mural of sea creatures and a shagreen-topped bar. The stunning interior of La Marea restaurant boasts a wall of vintage faux tortoise shells, metallic palm trees and hooded bergère chairs in deep coffee-colored leather, striking a perfect balance between the elegant and the organic.
