In partnership with Serax, a Belgian design brand, Kelly Wearstler takes on dinnerware with a unique eye for finding harmony in dissonance. Abstract motifs and unexpected implementations of materials are explored across two collections: Zuma and Dune. Comprising a conversation between past and present, Zuma alludes to modern and historic technology, while Dune marries the materiality and forms of the natural world.
The Zuma family engages futuristic 3D vector grids and ancient glass-ware motifs. Digital graphic patterns are stripped down to convey a hand painted feel, creating the perfect balance between tech and hand-craft. The patterns vary throughout the range and are intended to be mixed and matched across colors and shapes.
The Dune family’s two-tone finishes of matte and high gloss ceramics enhance the sculptural crests and ridges that variegate the dishes and platters. Taking an unexpected turn, the corrugated motif is repeated across glassware and flatware in differing forms to yield diverse yet holistic place settings.
