Kelly Wearstler fashioned the flagship Viceroy location in Santa Monica with a style she refers to as “Modern Colonialism,” a fusion of British Colonial impressions and bold, modern perspectives. For the public spaces, she selected eye-catching design elements such as an oversized cameo placed amongst a wall of mirrors at the lobby’s front desk, a large-scale, graphic-patterned rug in the Cameo Bar and a striking wall of diagonal bookshelves in the library, all of which are highlighted by a limed-wood floor that provides a polished yet organic undertone. |
The acclaimed Whist restaurant offers indoor-outdoor dining and a menu of eclectic California cuisine. The backdrop of the outdoor space consists of a pool and crisp pool-side cabanas and is punctuated by Wearstler’s iconic mural of plates on one of the walls of the restaurant. |

Despite the relaxed beach atmosphere, she uses strong pops of color – parrot green, buttercup yellow, dove gray, wave-crest white and Prussian blue – to create a destination that elicits a sense of whimsical eclecticism. |
