This 1956 Hal Levitt epitomized mid-century architecture and the indoor-outdoor lifestyle for which California is known. The ebullient interiors were chronicled in Kelly's second book, Domicilium Decoratus. To re-ignite the estate's classic bones, she used a thoughtfully curated collection of vintage furniture, textiles, and finishes. |
To create a rich, well-traveled look, Moorish chairs, antique Khotan rugs, hand-painted wall coverings, and millwork in dry brush finishes and had-carved cabinetry were used. The color scheme included shades of eggplant, vermillion and papaya with touches of brass to play off the outdoor greenery that was visible from the home's plentiful floor-to-ceiling windows. |
